Who should you be rooting for at the Emmy’s?

The 2025 Emmy nominations are out as of July 15 and most of the announcements were pretty expected based on the buzz of the show throughout the year. Here are the best nominations that you should be rooting for:

White Lotus (season 3) is one of the most nominated series

White Lotus is a show that takes on the hypocrisies of wealth (both having it and wanting it) and this season took on interesting social, political and ethical dynamics and how money influences morality as well as many other character driven themes. White Lotus is one of those series that every season seems better than the last. The nominated season 3 has so many strong performances that a few actors didn’t make the nomination cut only because their peers in the show took up so many nominations slots. For example, Leslie Bibb as Kate and Patrick Schwarzenegger as Saxon both didn’t get nominations despite being extremely deserving just because every single actor in the show was deserving. But then Sam Rockwell did receive a nomination for essentially one monologue he provided to the show, and it’s well deserved (and I hope he wins).

Here is where White Lotus was nominated:

  • Outstanding Drama Series
  • Outstanding supporting actor in a drama series:
    • Walton Goggins
    • Jason Isaacs
    • Sam Rockwell
  • Outstanding supporting actress in a drama series:
    • Natasha Rothwell
    • Aimee Lou Wood
    • Carrie Coon
  • Outstanding writing for a drama series:
    • “Full-Moon Party” – Mike White
  • Outstanding direction for a drama series:
    • “Amor Fati” – Mike White
  • Best Guest Actor in a drama series
    • Scott Glenn

The Traitors is the best reality TV competition series in a long time

The Traitors is a truly extraordinary show that sucks in all its viewers and has taken the nation by storm. The concept is basically a really elaborate game of “Mafia” or “Secret Werewolf.” Alan Cumming is sensational as a “very Scottish” host and the whole vibe is very spooky and extra and fun and allows fans to revisit their favorite lying reality stars.

Traitors is nominated for:

  • Outstanding Reality Competition Program
  • Outstanding Reality Competition Host – Alan Cumming

Shrinking is the best comedy on TV and the cast deserves recognition

Shrinking is nominated several times for its performance as a comedy series. Its unlikely to win against Hollywood favorite Hacks and the new show which is nothing but Hollywood insider private jokes, The Studio. But not only is Shrinking (written by the same geniuses who did Ted Lasso) the best comedy on TV, it’s one of Harrison Ford’s best career performances. But even with Ford’s spectacular performance in the show, his costar Michael Urie who is nominated in the same category gave by far the best performance in the show this season (its a very high bar). Ford is the most likely to take home the win of any of the Shrinking cast and crew because of his iconic status as an actor but really they’re all deserving. Shrinking was snubbed in the writing and directing category despite the finale episode of season 2, “The Last Thanksgiving” being heads above any episode of The Bear, The Studio, Abbott Elementary or Hacks (and I love all of those shows).

Shrinking is nominated for:

  • Outstanding Comedy Series
  • Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series – Jason Segal
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
    • Harrison Ford
    • Michael Urie
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Jessica Williams

Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program had multiple great entries

The category for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program features nominations for Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (Mormon Wives) and Love on the Spectrum. Mormon Wives has taken the nation by storm with the drama that follows the most soberly dramatic housewives in America. The show explores traditional reality show drama but also has an element of the often mysterious Mormon Church and their rules and how those impact the dramatic lives of the women. Very well deserved nomination.

But Love on the Spectrum does something extremely special in that it depicts individuals with true, recognizable, autism in an environment that is equally uncomfortable for all humans which is dating. The cast is loveable, funny, and sharp. And in a way never done with disabilities before, the show allows for viewers to really relate to an autistic individual. When one of the daters laments that they’re nervous about what to talk about on their upcoming date and they consult their family, we can all remember a time when we felt the same way. The stars of the show have largely gone on to find immense fame in social media and beyond. Its hard not to root for the cast of Love on the Spectrum.

The Outstanding Structured Reality Program is even MORE packed with favorites

The Outstanding Structured Reality Program features Love Island, Antiques Road Show, and Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. This is the ‘Sophie’s Choice’ of categories. Love Island has stolen the soul of every American household who has been watching those dumb dumbs fall in and out of love on a neon colored island EVERY DAY of the week (except wednesday) and for that they really do deserve some flowers. Antiques Road Show though is the true OG! They’ve been in the game for decades and they know what they have!

But Guy Fieri is not only the mayor of flavortown, but of all of our hearts and there is no one on planet earth I could be rooting for more. I only really specifically do not want the other nominees to win which is Queer Eye (crying Jonathan Van Ness couldn’t be more annoying if he was trying which I do think he is) and Shark Tank (I’m out, Mark Cuban).

Good luck to all the best shows on TV which take up most of my free time because I’m a degenerate!
