Pro-Trump Twitter Users Circumvent Censorship

Published

on

The hastag #HillaryForPrision was trending a few days ago. Trump fans changed the word “prison” to “prision” to bypass the Twitter algorithm filter that makes it impossible to get #HillaryForPrison to trend. Twitter would not comment on this specific case, but says that the reason such topics don’t trend is because they are not as popular as people think.

This is a highly unlikely story, considering a version of #HillaryForPrison with a typo actually was trending. The “Prision” version was trending and it had been tweeted more than 28,000 times. The “Prison” version has been used over 3 million times in the past year.

Twitter has a history of banning conservatives, shadow banning conservatives, and keeping certain phrases from tending on it’s site even when those people or phrases do not conflict with the site’s terms and conditions. It is no surprise that they would restrict the use of #HillaryForPrison. This is one of the many reasons that users are leaving the site and Twitter revenue is down.
