Happy Valentines Month to the Oscar Power Couples

Published

on

If there is anything more wonderful than love to celebrate this month its power and status, obviously. This year’s Oscar nominations got swept away in Valentine fever and nominated two Hollywood power couples for the top acting awards.

Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst

The real life engaged couple played a newly wed couple in The Power of the Dog which has been nominated for 12 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. Jesse Plemons was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his part in The Power of the Dog and Kirsten Dunst was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for hers respectively. While Plemons gave a very strong performance he was not the grit of the film but Dunst for her part gave the best performance of her career, the best of the film and very likely the best in her category.

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz

Unlike Plemons and Dunst, real life married couple Javier Bordem and Penelope Cruz are not nominated for roles played opposite one another. Bardem is nominated for Best Actor in a Lead Role for his portrayal of Dezi Arnez in Being the Ricardos. Cruz is nominated for Best Actress in a Lead role for her work in the film Parallel Mothers. Unlike in the case of Power of the Dog who received the most nominations of all films at the Oscars, Bardem and Cruz’s performances were more or less stand-out for their films with Parallel Mothers receiving only one other nomination for score and Being the Ricardos receiving only acting nominations.

Whoever wins at least this season we can root for love and most importantly: power.
