What’s With All Of The Leo DiCaprio Memes?

Published

on

If you’ve been online in the last few days no doubt you’ve seen the myriad of memes about Leonardo DiCaprio’s perception of the age 25. Like me, you may have been wondering – what in God’s name is everyone on about?

Luckily I have some inside sources who are cool with the kids. So I’m here for you to explain.

The Academy Award winning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was rocketed into movie star status after his portrayal of Jack in Titanic, has a reputation of only dating younger women. In fact, he has never in his public romantic history dated someone over the age of 25. See below a brief history (ages reflect the oldest the women were during the course of relationship):

  • 1994: Bridget Hall, 16
  • 1995: Naomi Campbell, 24
  • Late 90’s: Kristen Zang, 22
  • 1998: Eva Herzigová, 24
  • 2000 – 2005: Gisel Bundchen, 24
  • 2005 – 2011: Bar Refaeli, 25
  • 2011: Blake Lively, 24
  • 2012: Erin Heatherton, 23
  • 2013: Alesia Riabenkova, 21
  • 2013: Toni Garn, 22
  • 2016: Kelly Rohrbach, 25
  • 2017: Nina Agdal, 25
  • 2017: Lorena Rae, 25
  • 2017 – 2022: Camila Morrone, 25

On separating from his latest girlfriend, Camilla Morrone, only a couple of weeks after the model turned 25, the memes were generated to tease the actor for his apparent “25 and younger rule.”

The joke is mostly funny considering the actor has never dated a minor (since he himself was a teenager in the 90s) but it does also point to the insidious culture of Hollywood sexualizing young women and discarding them once they’ve aged out of their infantilized fantasy. Leo may only date legal women but when they’re 25 years his junior, is there not still something underlying that speaks to a broader culture of predators lurking just barely beneath the liberal elite surface?

Is his relatively innocent proclivity for barely-adult women not just the……………………………………………………………………………………Tip of the iceberg?
