It took two years but it looks like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is finally in hot water for attending the ritzy Met Gala in 2021!
The Office of Congressional Ethics is saying she may have violated some House ethics rules by accepting an “impermissible gift.” And let’s be real, we all know that gift wasn’t a small thing. This was the Met Gala we’re talking about, where tickets go for upwards of $30,000. That’s some serious $$$
If you remember, this is the event where Ocasio-Cortez showed up wearing a dress with “tax the rich” plastered across it. Clearly, she was trying her best to get attention.
Now, she has it. The American Accountability Foundation filed a complaint with the OCE claiming that the congresswoman broke House rules by accepting free tickets to the event and now that the republicans are in charge of the House, they actually started investigating.
The House GOP is arguing that because Ms. Ocasio-Cortez described attending the event as part of her “official duties,” the ticket counts as a gift, and House rules prohibit members of Congress from accepting gifts valued at more than $50.
Let’s see if she actually pays for this.
