Are Sydney Sweeney’s jeans racist?

Liberals and even mainstream corporate media are saying that American Eagle is promulgating Nazi imagery because their new ad tagline is “Sydney Sweeney has good jeans.” 

American Eagle released an ad campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney wearing American Eagle jeans and talking about both jeans and sometimes genes with a tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” playing on the homonym jeans (as in pants) and genes (as in biological traits). The most iconic of the ads is the one where Sweeney is zipping up the pants and in a breathy voice explaining that here “genes” and “jeans” are blue (like her eye color and her pants). 

There is also one where she doesn’t say anything; she just pretends to work on a classic car, wipes her clean hands on the butt of her American Eagle jeans and then gets in said classic car before the tagline. There is another where she is wearing the jeans and a denim jacket/top and says she’s not telling people to buy the jeans but actually is (this one is baffling). There’s another one that is a short clip and just has a camera spinning around in a circle around Sweeney before the tagline and finally one where Sweeney is pretending to audition for the ad campaign. The left says it’s racist to say Sydney Sweeney has good genes because Sydney Sweeney is white (specifically blonde and blue eyed). So if you say someone who is white, blonde and blue eyed has good genes you therefore must be saying that the only good genes you can have would be white ones just like Nazis. It doesn’t matter that Sweeney is a well known sex symbol known for being today’s biggest “it” girl: if you say Sweeney’s  biology is what makes her hot you are actually calling for the extermination of other races. It is THE SAME! 

It’s doubtful that American Eagle realized that saying Sweeney’s hotness came from her “jeans/genes” would get them called Nazis. Because who in even the most sensitive and pessimistic marketing rooms could ever conceive of something that deranged and far fetched? But they probably did know they’d get some backlash from doing an ad which relies on the sex appeal of a classically beautiful hot girl who is not plus sized or queer or girl bossing in any way. 

Nothing sells a product quite like liberal outrage. American Eagle almost certainly knew this when they chose a doe eyed bombshell to read lines in a sexy voice even though they can’t have possibly predicted their luck that the liberals would decide it was not only racist but Nazis propaganda. Average American consumers have made it very clear that they are sick to death of “cancellation” from the left and they will not be participating. In fact, consumers now tend to react the opposite to calls for cancellation. The more a liberal tries to double down that something totally innocuous is evil, the more people are going to buy it. 

There is a wait list for the “Sydney Jean.” American Eagle’s stock price shot up 10% since before the campaign.

It is interesting, the severe backlash of the campaign. Little known fact about American Eagle is that they are highly shorted stocks (a “short” is where an investment broker basically gambles that a stock price will drop. If the price goes up they actually lose money – recall Game Stop in 2021). Over 10% of American Eagle stock was being shorted (thats a lot when the amount should be about 0%). The price rally of the stock is bad for a lot of investment firms who are betting on the short. The insane escalation outcry over Sweeney’s ads sure does seem inorganic. I wonder if any of these major investment firms shorting the stocks of American Eagle have any influencers and media they would use to their favor? 

Sydney Sweeney’s jeans aren’t racist and neither is pride in her genes. Being hot at least part biology and she has every right to celebrate who she is the same as anyone else. And American Eagle has every right to commodify who she is. AMERICA!
