Back again for the 49th annual march (the longest running advocacy march in United States history), March For Life is on the steps of the United States Supreme Court fighting for the lives of our nation’s most vulnerable. Though not exclusively a religious event, many attendees are members of the Christian community or faith community in some way as the protection of life is a pillar of the Christian faith.

This year a keynote speaker for the event was a faith community favorite, Kirk Cameron. Cameron was a TV and movie star in the 1980s and 1990s, famously playing Mike Seaver on the popular sitcom Growing Pains. Through his journey in Hollywood, Cameron found God and has since focused his talents on faith based content as one of the most prevalent and beloved evangelists in modern history making popular films like Fireproof  and the cult classic Left Behind. His sister and fellow teen star, Candace Cameron Bure, is also famously a woman of faith who lends her talents to the family friendly kings of Christmas, Hallmark channel.

Cameron spoke to a massive crowd primarily about adoption, faith and how faith interacts with our responsibility to our country. He remarked that his wife was adopted as a child and that four of his children are adopted. He also noted that because his wife was adopted, his two natural born children also relied on adoption to be alive today. He concluded his remarks powerfully, calling on all the attendees to remember what we are called to do.

“Mandates from heaven remind us to do justice and love mercy and to walk humbly with our god. That’s what we will be doing this afternoon.”

March for life was treated to this celebrity guest in a year where Roe Versus Wade is under serious scrutiny at the Supreme Court and all of their 50 year long efforts may finally come to some resolution.
