Justice has finally caught up with Harvey Weinstein.
The former Hollywood big shot, now convicted rapist, has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars, effectively ensuring that he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison.
Now, we all know that Weinstein has been accused of some truly heinous crimes, and it’s about time that he faces the consequences of his actions.
For too long, he was able to use his power and influence to avoid accountability and build wealth with the support of major Hollywood stars and political figures.
Even Michelle Obama – a supposed feminist – hosted dinners in honor of Weinstein where they celebrated his genius and kept any news of his truly shocking, frequent abuse of women swept under the rug.
It’s a victory for those of us who still believe that no one should be above the law, no matter how wealthy or influential they may be.
Weinstein thought he could get away with anything, but he was wrong. (He’s not a Clinton!) And now he’s paying for what he did.
Of course, there are still many questions that need to be answered about how Weinstein was able to get away with his crimes for so long. There are still countless survivors who have yet to see justice, and we need to keep fighting for them.
But for now, let’s take a moment to celebrate this victory:Harvey Weinstein is going to prison, and he’s not getting out anytime soon.
