Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez loves calling conservatives mean names on social media.
She’s a real bully!
This week, she’s resorting to a tired insult – calling Republicans racist.
But the reason why is actually so ridiculous, it’s funny.
In a video Q&A posted on Instagram Live, she claimed calling illegal immigration a “surge” is part of a racist narrative.
One supporter asked Ocasio-Cortez why she was not “addressing the border crisis and the kids in cages like you used to.”
AOC responded: “It’s not a border crisis. It’s an Imperialism crisis, it’s a climate crisis, it’s a trade crisis. And also it’s a carceral crisis.””
“But people don’t want to have that conversation,” AOC continued. “They want to say, ‘But what about the surge?’”
That’s when she got real serious.
“Stop. Anyone who’s using the term ‘surge’ around you, consciously, is trying to invoke a militaristic frame. And that’s a problem, because this is not a surge. These are children and they are not insurgents and we are not being invaded,” she continued. She called the idea and its language part of “a white supremacist philosophy.”
“The idea that if another is coming in the population that this is an invasion of who we are,” she continued.
Of course, this is a ridiculous statement.
The only reason people are using the word “surge” is to indicate that there is an absurd increase of people arriving at the border.
Perhaps AOC just doesn’t understand the meaning of the word SURGE?
