On Monday, the House January 6 Committee voted to recommend charges for former President Trump with “crimes” related to the Capitol riot last year.
The committee asked the Department of Justice to follow up with FOUR charges that would be a much bigger deal if the committee also believed that Donald Trump is not protected by the bill of rights.
Here’s what they are:
-Obstruction of an official proceeding (Protected by the 5th Amendment)
-Conspiracy to defraud the U.S. (Protected by the 1st Amendment)
-Conspiracy to make a false statement (Protected by the 1st Amendment)
-Insurrection (Just, no.)
This is historic, of course, because at no time in U.S. History has our Congress been corrupt and petty enough to recommend criminal charges against a President.
Trump responded to the news to say what we all know is true.
“These folks don’t get it that when they come after me, people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Americans know that I pushed for 20,000 troops to prevent violence on Jan 6, and that I went on television and told everyone to go home….”
