Where does Marty Supreme fit in my running ranking?

Each year I watch all the Best Picture nominees to make sure someone can tell you the truth about whether or not they were any kid (the truth according to moi).
I provided a ranking of where the films I’d seen so far stood at the time of the Best Picture announcement (which was half) and have since seen two more frontrunner films, Hamnet and most recently Marty Supreme.
I will not be seeing Frankenstein because I read it was gory and I have a very weak stomach and I will not be seeing F1 because the FBI (in my opinion) covered up Brad Pitt’s abuse of his wife and children and I don’t make a lot of stands when it comes to Hollywood (or else how would I watch any movies) but I’m taking this one, I do not watch new films starring Brad Pitt anymore. More on why below in a note from me*.
Marty Supreme is a compelling movie. It doesn’t cover much ground but in his signature style, director Josh Safdie sucks in the audience with ease and watching, one finds themselves entirely enamored with the flawed character of Marty Mauser played by Timothy Chalamet. For a movie technically about a ping pong champion, it takes a lot of left turns. Set in 1952 with the world still reeling from World War 2, somehow Marty Supreme feels extremely modern. There is something refreshing about how relatable the anti-hero of Marty Mauser is to modern hustlers. The film explores masculine pride in a way that’s evergreen and transcends generational attitudes. Marty Supreme is unique in how male the lens is for the film. The women of the movie are only extensions of Marty’s world and all are totally enamored with him. This movie presents the idea that Marty is someone every man wants to be in business with and that every woman wants to be with and it posits the question: do all men think this of themselves? But not in a way that is remotely anti-men. It celebrates this idea. Marty really is the best table tennis player in the world per the film. Timothy Chalamet in his campaign to win the Oscar for Best Actor really mirrors Marty’s energy in the film. There is something abrasive about it but also something meritorious in telling the truth about one’s place in the world and thinking that place is somewhere lofty.
It wasn’t my favorite movie of the bunch, but its well in the top half. See the rankings below now with this movie and Hamnet added.

A note from me about why I don’t watch new Brad Pitt releases:
*In 2016 the FBI “conducted an investigation” after Angelina Jolie called law enforcement after she alleges she was brutally abused on their plane and that her son was beaten when he tried to step in to protect her. A judge awarded Pitt 50-50 custody after this “investigation” concluded. That ruling was thrown out after it was discovered the judge had a conflict of interest with Brad Pitt’s attorneys (he had financial interests with their firm). This happened in 2016 which is the same time the FBI was being ran by James Comey and his team of thugs who also covered up the USA gymnastics rape scandal. Jolie filed a FOIA to obtain the details of their so called “investigation” and they never provided them. They redacted everything except her own claims. Why? Because they obviously didn’t conduct any investigation they just took Brad’s word for it and probably solicited a bribe just like they did in the USA gymnastics case. The LA field office was part of the cover up for the USA gymnastics team and the field office responsible for this incident. The culture of the FBI under Comey we have to assume was absolutely rife with corruption. Jolie even sued the FBI to get more of the details and they held her up in court all the way until 2024 when she eventually just dropped the suit. They never did disclose the truth of their “investigation.”
This is what Angelina Jolie said happened (in a court filing) and I believe her completely: “[Brad] Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow. The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.” She also said he poured beer on Angelina and both beer and wine on the children. Having knowledge of how abusers operate, the details of this ring very true.
I didn’t like that after this incident, Brad Pitt’s career got a big boost with an Oscar nomination that next year and Angelina’s career has remained relatively flat. The FBI “cleared him” after but his own children testified against him in court and they have since removed his last name from their names. In response to this, Brad’s PR people put out statements about how sad BRAD is about the children’s decisions and basically claimed the kids are mean to have done that to Brad. Its gross. I don’t mind people have a hard time, get into drugs and drinking, go down a bad path, but the total lack of accountability for Brad Pitt rubs me really the wrong way. The way Hollywood doubled down in their embrace of him after all of this is truly wrong.
And sure there are a lot of wrong things I ignore and I think that’s very fair, I am selective in my outrage. But that’s the honest truth about why I won’t see his movies.
So, no, I will not be seeing F1, and don’t worry it stands no chance to win the top prize.
