Taylor Swift’s announcement is the Boston Tea Party of engagements
In a pretty casual Tuesday afternoon instagram post, Taylor Swift announced to the world that she and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs are engaged to be married.
Her engagement post included several photos of the the proposal including one of her ring which includes a large diamond (probably, I’m not a jeweler) in a vintage or vintage inspired setting. The ring designer is Kindred Lubeck.
People have their opinions about Taylor Swift including President Trump who, after Swift endorsed both Biden and Harris, decried he “hate(s)” the pop star. But really, its a major cultural victory for America.
Taylor Swift is the most famous woman in America and arguably the world (she has some competition globally). She has a history of dating quintessentially liberal men (they may not be politically democrats I have no idea) with artsy personas and moody, beta energy. Including multiple Brits. Travis Kelce is a large, traditionally masculine football playing goofball who is close to his family and as American as the Second Amendment. They met in the midwest for goodness sake. For Taylor Swift, world’s most beloved leading lady, to end up with perhaps the definition of an American male stereotype is actually a massive patriotic victory. Kelce beat out Harry Styles, Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy.
It’s the Boston Tea Party of engagements. The Brits can have their royal weddings. When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce say “I Do” at half-time during the Super Bowl (probably) we will have the most Americana wedding of all time.
Congratulations to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce! Your love is an American triumph.
