The Biden Administration seems poised to once again exert its influence over the American public, this time by “encouraging” citizens to roll up their sleeves for yet another round of COVID-19 vaccination. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre recently shared that the administration plans to tout the upcoming updated COVID-19 vaccine, set to debut in mid-September.
In the press briefing room, Jean-Pierre tried to emphasize the alleged safety of COVID-19 vaccinations, making the claim that these shots offer an impregnable shield against hospitalization, long-term health concerns, and even death. It’s as if we’re expected to accept this assertion at face value without questioning the data, potential risks, or the very real concerns raised by some medical professionals and experts.
But what’s conspicuously absent from the statement is whether the administration intends to cross the line from encouragement to compulsion for its own workforce. This lack of transparency leaves room for speculation, and we’re left with more questions than answers.
Of course, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with pharmaceutical giants Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax, are supposedly gearing up to bless us with updated vaccines specifically tailored to target the so-called “XBB variants.” These new iterations are said to be descendants of the Omicron variant, but we’re still waiting for substantial evidence about their impact and effectiveness.
Given the tangled web of bureaucracy, the authorization process by both the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) might well take a few weeks. This could mean that the general public might not have access to these newfangled shots until October, at the earliest.
It’s worth questioning the timing of President Biden’s announcement about securing additional funding from Congress for yet another COVID-19 vaccine. This raises eyebrows as it seems like a preemptive move to bolster the pharmaceutical industry’s bottom line rather than focusing on alternatives or giving citizens the opportunity to make informed decisions about their own health.
And let’s not ignore the broader context. As these new vaccines enter the scene, we’re witnessing a resurgence of COVID-19 era restrictions in various regions, including mask mandates and social distancing rules. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the state’s appetite for control hasn’t waned, and these developments should give us pause.
