Following a dramatic U.S. military operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Trump has repeatedly made it clear that Caracas’s vast oil resources are now part of a new strategic vision for the United States.

Trump has announced plans for Venezuela to turn over tens of millions of barrels of oil to the United States — potentially as much as 30–50 million barrels in the near term — with U.S. authorities controlling the sales and revenues. In meetings with top oil executives, he’s pitched American companies on investing in Venezuela’s depleted energy infrastructure, with the promise of revitalizing production and generating profits for both U.S. firms and consumers back home.
