Reuters Places Political Ad For Biden – Against Twitter Rules

Published

on

Twitter banned political advertising in October 2019. Jack Dorsey announced this in several self-righteous tweets where he listed aggressive arguments against paying for political messing on Twitter.

In one of those statements, he said

“This isn’t about free expression. This is about paying for reach. And paying to increase the reach of political speech has significant ramifications that today’s democratic infrastructure may not be prepared to handle. It’s worth stepping back in order to address.”

And true to his word, all political organizations have been banned from promoting ads on Twitter.

However, there is as significant loophole that Twitter has turned a blind eye towards. The practice of extremely biased news organizations promoting overtly political content in sponsored posts.

This most recently happened when Reuters (an international news organization based in London) sponsored a video from the Biden campaign, where Biden thanks all healthcare workers fighting against Covid-19.

This is clearly a political ad manufactured by the Biden campaign. Reuters has exposed this loophole to promote this overtly political content.

Twitter’s response? Crickets…
