On Wednesday, NBA star Lebron James posted a photograph of Nicholas Reardon, identified as the police officer who shot a knife-wielding teenager in Ohio, with the caption “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY.”
When the reaction to his woke tweet wasn’t positive, James took the tweet down – though he did not back down from the sentiment.
He posted a new statement saying, “I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police. I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate — This isn’t about one officer. It’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY.”
He also wrote that “ANGER does any of us any good and that includes myself! Gathering all the facts and educating does though! My anger still is here for what happened that lil girl. My sympathy for her family and may justice prevail!”
President Trump read the comments and he couldn’t help but respond.
He called the basketball player’s comments a “racist rant,” and said it was “divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning.”
In a statement released by his office on Thursday night, Trump said “LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League.”
“His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!” the president added.
Many have joined President Trump in criticizing the NBA star and pointing out the obvious liberal hypocrisy.
Social media sites permanently banned the (at the time) sitting president for “inciting violence,” but Lebron James directly threatened a police officer and he is still free to speak his mind on all of their platforms.
